Andalusite
Origin
South Africa
Overview
Kresta Earth Resources Limited supplies premium-grade Andalusite, an aluminum silicate mineral highly valued for its use in refractory applications. Our andalusite offers exceptional thermal stability, high refractoriness, and resistance to chemical corrosion, making it essential in industries such as steel, cement, and foundries.
Key Features
- Al₂O₃ Content: 58%–60%
- Fe₂O₃: Less than 1.5%
- Form: Sized grains (0–10mm) and fines
- Thermal Stability: Excellent expansion control
Applications
- Refractory bricks and castables for steel and cement industries
- Foundry sand for molds and cores
- High-temperature ceramics
- Glass manufacturing and kiln furniture
Geological Context
Andalusite deposits are typically associated with metamorphosed pelitic rocks subjected to medium- to high-grade regional metamorphism. They are hosted in schists, gneisses, and quartz-rich sediments altered during tectonothermal events.
Deposit Types:
- Metamorphic deposits within pelitic schists
- Contact metamorphism along intrusive granite margins
Host Rocks:
- Aluminum-rich schists
- Quartz-mica gneisses
- Sillimanite-kyanite bearing metamorphic sequences
Mineralogy
Dominated by Andalusite crystals, with associated quartz, muscovite, and minor sillimanite and kyanite.
Export Logistics
We deliver andalusite via road and rail links to ports including Durban, Beira, and Dar es Salaam. Shipments are available in bulk bags, containerized loads, or bulk vessels depending on client needs.
